Fiery Opal Surrounded by 18K Gold Opihi Shell Makes Commanding Pendant

Arley designed this pendant to resemble the volcanic cones all over our Island and also the shape of the opihi, pronounced oh PEE hee, a local limpet that tastes really good fresh with plenty salt. This is not a mold of a real opihi; it's her abstraction of one.
The back of her Opihi has two gold loops to hold it straight on either a light chain or a fat one. These little holes will even admit a small (say under 5mm) pearl necklace!

The picture on the left shows the construction of the back, and the image above is life size.
The stone is an extra large (and extra beautiful) Mexican Fire Opal, one which we bought on a memorable shopping trip to Caretera and other small mining towns in Central Mexico.
The shell is one and three eighths by one inches. This pendant is 18K gold and is so marked. It weighs .39 troy ounces, including the stone.
