Twenty-Five Golden Shells Around Your Neck
We used sea shell patterns for jewelry quite freely: they are beautiful design elements. We found a lot of these shells ourselves, and Arley also got a reputation as someone who, if you lent her an interesting shell she didn't already have, would mold it and give it back with a gold replica in return for the privilige of molding it. She accumulated a nice collection, and hung the final master casts (from which we made our wax copies) all on a chain to make herself this awesome necklace:

This necklace is eighteen inches long and weighs 2.24 troy ounces. The chain is marked 14K. There are 25 shells which go from a quarter of an inch to one inch, and mostly around a half inch. Some are 14K, some are 18K. Some are marked, most are not, but all of them are pure solid gold, not hollow, not gold filled, not plated.
