As we took a floating trip down the YangTze River on the ship "My Three Gorges" twenty years ago, Arley visited every museum gift shop, government Friendship Store, Farmers Market, antique or other store which might have jade. She'd find a hopeful seller, look over the stock, haggle some, and maybe buy a piece or two or three. Sometimes what she bought wasn't even jade, maybe a little rug. But by the end of a three week Chinese shopping trip, she had a wonderful stash of her favorite jade colors. She made three very different leis out of these little buttons, ornaments, and carvings. Here's one:

As you can see, the jade is color matched, even though the pieces came from all over China. Some are fairly modern carvings, probably done with tools, and others are much older and more primitive, carved by rubbing with sand coated sticks.
The necklace is marked "SWEET" and "14K PLUMB". It is twenty-three inches long and weighs one and a half troy ounces.
